No description Ooops. I forgot to write this until I got back from Germany. We'll
see how much I really remember...
Today it was cloudy again and threatened to rain so we
postponed going to the Zugspitze until Thursday. So we
headed to Lake Chiemsee which is east of Garmisch almost
to Salzburg, Austria. There is another Army Resort there
and the lake also has an island with another of King Ludwig II's
castles on it. Once we got there we bought tickets to get
on the ferry to head to the island called Herren Chiemsee.
Once on the island we had lunch at a nice little restaurant and
then hiked for about 15 minutes to the castle/palace of King
Ludwig II. The palace was meant to be a close replica of the
Palace of Versailles in France. King Ludwig decorated it in
order to honor the "Sun King" of France who built the palace
of Versailles. The castle was not fully completed but the parts
that were completed were elegant. Lots of handcarved wood
and beautiful chandeliers. One of the chandeliers is made of
porcelain and is the largest porcelain chandelier ever made.
After touring the castle we ferried back to the shore and
headed back to Garmisch. It was late, so we had dinner and
then went to bed.
