No description Today we took a bus tour to the Neuschwanstein castle with
a stop on the way at a small woodcarving shop. The shop
had all sorts of cool woodcarvings, nutcrackers, cuckoo
clocks, nativity scenes and lots of little people. Next stop
was a famous church known for its statue of Jesus. Apparently
when the statue was first made it was considered ugly but then
some lady said that she saw it cry and claimed it had healing
powers so lots of pilgrims came to see it and be healed. The
chuch was built so that more people could see it. The church
was really beautiful. The day started out kind of wet and
never really dried off. It rained most of the time we were
out until we got back to Garmisch after the end of the tour.
The last stop was the Neuschwanstein castle which is the
castle that Disney was inspired by. When we got to the castle
area we had lunch at a cafe and walked around until our tour.
The castle was built by King Ludwig II as a vacation home
and most of the rooms in the castle had magical themes.
Neuschwanstein means New Swan Stone in German and refers to
the fact that the castle was built on the foundation of
another castle which is built directly into the swan stone
of the mountain. After the tour of the castle and waiting
in the rain for a while we took a route back through
Austria. We even passed the old checkpoints that were last
used only a couple of years ago before the European Union
started. The sun finally broke through the clouds when we
got back to Garmisch. We then went to dinner at a nice
Yugoslavian restaurant recommended by our tour guide. Then
we went back to the hotel to go to sleep.
